The Welsh Government has functions of funding, advising and supporting museums, libraries, archives, and other bodies responsible for promoting and safeguarding culture in Wales. Section 61 of the Government of Wales Act 2006 gives the Welsh Ministers a broad power to support a wide range of aspects of culture.
The Welsh Government sets strategic priorities for the arts in Wales and oversees the funding, delivery and management of arts policy by the Arts Council for Wales. It provides funding to the National Library of Wales and the National Museum of Wales. CADW is part of the Welsh Government and has the role of protecting Wales’ historic environment.
